on a couple of levels. The Colgate–Palmolive Company is reporting that counterfeit toothpaste falsely labeled as “Colgate” has been found and may contain Diethylene Glycol, an industrial solvent. You may remember that the FDA has issued warnings about toothpaste from China containing that substance.
First of all, an industrial solvent is not what I want to find in my toothpaste. That one’s pretty obvious.
But counterfeit toothpaste? Gucci handbags, Rolex watches, that I could understand. But toothpaste? How far down the criminal food chain does one have to go before you get to faking toothpaste? I’m picturing some guys in a jail cell. One says, “What are you in for?” Another one says, “I shot a man.” And then some other guys says, “Fake toothpaste.” I’m thinking it’s not going to go well for him.
