Or he’s a hard core Democrat. It’s a little hard to tell.
The good Doctor feels obligated to share his conclusions about the mainstream Presidential candidates health. Well, I’m glad I don’t read him for more than his recipes. The whole piece is here.
First off John McCain’s health sucks. Somehow spending five years in a POW camp and being in your seventies just isn’t conducive to being in really good health. That shouldn’t really come as a shock to anyone.
Where I was very surprised was that Barrack Obama is still a smoker. To quote from the report, “He has quit smoking on several occasions and currently uses Nicorette gum with success. He promises his wife, Michelle, he will give up smoking.” That is not the statement of a non-smoker. So we are pretty much left with the conclusion Mr. Obama still smokes. I’m a little curious where he still smokes, as around here you really can’t smoke anywhere other than your home and your car. That’s got to be a nightmare for his security folks. I hope Mr. Obama is able to quit smoking sometime in the future, I think he’ll be pleased with how much better he feels.
So that leaves us with Dr McDougall’s conclusions. He says, “the evidence at hand clearly says John McCain is in relatively poor health and Barack Obama is in excellent health.” So you can smoke and be in excellent health? It would appear that all of the anti-tobacco ads I’m bombarded with actually are not true.
Or is Dr McDougall shading the truth a bit to align with his political values? Obviously no one other than Dr McDougall can know but either way, I’m glad he’s not my doctor.
In the interests of full disclosure, I smoked about 2 packs of cigarettes a day for around 20 years. I quit about a year and a half ago.
And no, that doesn’t mean what you think it does. Unless of course you’re thinking it’s time for a Vegan Month of Food. And if you are, well then you’re absolutely correct. Of course the graphic kind of gives it away.
And what is VeganMoFo you might ask? And you might as well because I’m going to tell you anyway. It’s an effort, begun by Isa, to get more folks writing about vegan food on the Internet. Basically it’s a commitment to write something at least vaguely related to vegan food every weekday during the month of October.
And I thought that would be an awesome way to launch my new project, LowCarbVegan.com. That’s one of several reasons I’ve been a bit scarce around these parts lately. So come on over to the blog and see what’s going on.
Somehow or the other I managed to space that my car’s license tags needed to be renewed this month. Well, I have two days thought I. So I headed over to the nearest branch office. Pulling into the parking lot, I reached into the glove box to get the needed documents. Oh crap, I don’t have any proof of insurance. Well, the agent’s office is only a few more miles on, I’ll just go over there and get something.
Arriving at the agent’s office, I notice that the sign looks different. Oh well, I don’t really pay that much attention to that sort of thing. Heading in, I shoot the breeze with the office staff for a few minutes before I come to the purpose of my visit. “I need a proof of insurance card”, I say. “That’s great but we’re no longer your agent”, they say. Huh?
Apparently they’ve switched to a different company but due to some legal arcana, they weren’t allowed to actually tell anyone. Whee! So I get the new agents phone number and give them a call. They’re really nice folks and all, and when I explain why I need the card, the nice lady says, “Oh, haven’t you heard?” Dreading the answer, I reply, “No. Heard what?” “All of the DMV offices in the state are closed today.”
I’m sure (unless you live under a rock) you’ve heard about China’s contaminated milk problem. Something like 50K kids sick, nothing too major, unless of course you’re one of the kids. And I pretty much thought, OK, people are greedy, it’ll get worked out. But then today I see this headline on the BBC, Animals sick from Chinese milk.
It seems a couple of orangutans and a baby lion in the Hangzhou Zoo have also become ill from consuming the contaminated milk. They should be OK and I’m not really sure why they were getting cow’s milk but this has really gone too far. Humans have parents, guardians, and the community to look out for them. Animals that have been forced into an artificial situation, who’s looking out for them? They didn’t ask to be there, their presence is of dubious value and now they’re being poisoned.
All this so some dairy operator can make a little more money. I really don’t have words for this.
